Woman accused of stealing over $38K from Somerset Co. legion to pay off gambling debt
Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Somerset County say a Markleton woman is facing charges, accused of stealing more than $38,000 from a local American Legion post and using it to make payments on online gambling sites.
Troopers say Regina Sanner, 43, was hired in Sept. of 2020 to be the manager of the American Legion Post #279, located along Rockdale Road in Black Township.
Authorities say the investigation into Sanner began in June, after the club's finance committee noticed multiple discrepancies.
Centre Co. Commissioner Michael Pipe named to Governor-elect Shapiro's staff
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — On Thursday, Governor-elect Josh Shapiro announced some of the individuals who will be appointed to his administration.
Among them is Centre County Commissioner Michael Pipe, who will serve as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Safety.
Pipe has served as county commissioner since 2012.
"During his time on the Board of Commissioners, Pipe oversaw the multi-stage upgrade of the countywide 9-1-1 radio emergency communications system, expanded the regional emergency services training site for first responders and emergency personnel, supported reforms resulting in a 50% reduction in returning citizens at the Centre County Correctional Facility, and championed funding for the County’s Central Booking Center, which supports local law enforcement,"
Family sues Clearfield County, jail staff following fatal overdose of female inmate
Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Clearfield County, its warden and other jail staff are being sued in federal court for the overdose death of an inmate.
The family of Kaitlyn Evans, 31, who officials said died from a fentanyl overdose while incarcerated in the jail, filed a civil suit last week.
The court documents allege the jail staff was negligent in providing medical attention to her when she was found unresponsive in her cell.
Man charged after crashing into CamTran bus stop, pulling knife, police say
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - An Altoona man is facing several charges after police said he crashed into a CamTran shelter and pulled a knife on several people in Johnstown Sunday. Jacob Kennedy, 23, has been charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and numerous traffic offenses. Johnstown police said they were responding to a call about a reckless driver in the area of Ideal Markert on Walnut Street just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
