PITTSBURGH (AP) — A student shot and killed another student early Wednesday outside a school in Pittsburgh, authorities said. The alleged shooter was soon captured after a foot chase. The ages of the students involved were not immediately clear. According to the city school district’s website, Oliver Citywide Academy is a full-time special education center serving grades 3-12. Detainee escapes Moshannon Valley ICE processing center, caught 90 minutes later, officials say

Philipsburg, PA — Authorities with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency reported Friday that a detainee escaped from the Moshannon Valley Processing Center, in Philipsburg, earlier this week. Officials say the "non-citizen" was reportedly captured 90 minutes after the escape on Tuesday night. State police say troopers located the escapee approximately two miles from the facility. Authorities noted that the individual does not have any "violent or sexual offense convictions.

Ebensburg woman accused of having sexual relationship with inmate at SCI Somerset

Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Department of Corrections say an Ebensburg woman is facing charges, accused of engaging in both a personal and sexual relationship with an inmate at SCI Somerset. Investigators say 60-year-old Laurie Semelsberger, who worked at the prison as a Psychological Services Associate, allegedly exchanged over 700 personal phone calls with the inmate from January to August of this year. Authorities say further investigation revealed that some of those phone calls were sexual in nature, and that Semelsberger allegedly discussed intimate, personal details about her family, vacationing and employment history.

NJ man accused of raping fellow Penn State student inside dorm room, campus police say

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Penn State University police say a New Jersey man is facing charges after being accused of raping a fellow student inside her dorm room earlier this year. Authorities say 20-year-old Jacob Tillman allegedly admitted to assaulting the victim while also claiming that he had no memory of the incident. According to the affidavit, police say the victim reported that the alleged assault had occurred in April after she and a group of friends had met with Tillman at the Lion's Den in downtown State College.

'He was a leader!' West Branch school district mourns loss of 17-year-old student

WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin underwent a medical procedure at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Friday evening and has resumed duty after temporarily transferring power to his deputy, Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement. Austin is continuing to deal with bladder issues that arose in December following his treatment for prostate cancer, Ryder said. The procedure was successful, elective and minimally invasive, “is not related to his cancer diagnosis and has had no effect on his excellent cancer prognosis,” the press secretary said.
