They're like a river of air but about 30,000 feet, sometimes more or less, above Earth’s surface. Jet streams are narrow , strong, fast moving air currents that impact weather patterns and air travel, as this is the typical cruising altitude of a commercial aircraft.
Judge to hear Centre County mail-in ballot challenge next week
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A judge is expected to hear the case next week of a mail-in-vote challenge in Centre County, where close to one hundred mail-in ballots from the recent primary election are under review.
At this week’s Centre County election board meeting, it was announced that a court suit was filed over the validity of 95 mail-in election ballots which is holding up certifying the county’s primary election results.
Pirates sign pitcher Mitch Keller to 5-year extension
PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — According to Pittsburgh Pirates beat writer Jason Mackey, the team has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract extension with starting pitcher Mitch Keller.
The new contract extension is reportedly worth $77 million.
Keller was drafted by Pittsburgh in 2014 and made his MLB debut in 2019.
Keller is coming off one of his best seasons, where he posted a record of 13-9, with a 4.21 ERA, and was selected to the 2023 MLB All-Star Game.
Police arrest robbery suspect in Ferndale
JOHNSTOWN - Ferndale police have arrested a man in connection to a series of robberies.
Police were notified a person matching the robbery suspect’s identity was walking down the street on Thursday evening.
That’s when Ferndale police apprehended Leonard Louchart.
East Taylor Township believed Louchart robbed the Martin General store on William Penn Avenue on Tuesday.
Johnstown police said they believe he also robbed the Subway restaurant in Johnstown and the Family Dollar store on Wednesday night.
Sheetz announces return of donut flavored beer 'Project Happy Hole-idayz'
PENNSYLVANIA — Gas station and convenience chain Sheetz has announced the return of their donut flavored beer, titled "Project Happy Hole-idayz."
The pale ale includes notes of fresh baked donuts, vanilla frosting, graham crackers, honey, and malted barley.
Each barrel of beer even includes one pound of glazed vanilla donut holes.
This beer was first unveiled to the public last Black Friday, and is making a comeback this year.
Four packs of sixteen ounce cans of Project Happy Hole-idayz will retail for $7.

Hiring slowed to 175K jobs last month, unemployment ticks up to 3.9%
WASHINGTON (AP) — The nation’s employers pulled back on their hiring in April, adding a modest 175,000 jobs in a sign that persistently high interest rates may be starting to take a bigger toll on the world’s largest economy.
Friday’s government report showed that last month’s hiring gain was down sharply from the blockbuster increase of 315,000 in March. And it was well below the 233,000 gain that economists had predicted for April, suggesting that the Federal Reserve’s aggressive streak of rate hikes may finally be cooling the pace of hiring.
NTSB releases final report on 2017 Hyndman train derailment
HYNDMAN, Pa. (WJAC) — The National Transportation Safety Board has issued its final report on the August 2017 train derailment in Hyndman, Bedford County.
The NTSB says the “inappropriate” use of hand brakes on empty train cars to control train speed and the placement of blocks of empty cars at the front of the train was the cause.
The report says, the CSX train was carrying a variety of cargo when 33 cars derailed from tracks along the Hogback Road Crossing.
